Two men were beaten to death in Faridpur and Narayanganj on Monday.

A suspected thief, Shaheen, 23, was beaten to death in an attack and three others were injured at Talmar intersection under Nagarkanda in Faridpur, reported the United News of Bangladesh.


Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Nagarkanda police, said that noticing five people in front of Debinagar Durga Temple at Talmar intersection, two men on a motorcycle approached them and questioned them. 鈥楢t one stage, they began shouting 鈥渢hief, thief鈥.鈥

Hearing the screams, more than 200 locals from two to three nearby villages went to the spot and beat four of them, the OC said, mentioning, 鈥楢mong them, Jihad managed to flee.鈥

The injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital where Shaheen succumbed to his injuries.

Three more injured victims鈥 Sumon Sheikh, 25, Pervez Matubbar, 18, Enamul, 25鈥 are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

In another incident, a man was beaten to death reportedly by some rivals at Sonachara under Bandar in Narayanganj.

The deceased was Pervez, a mason by profession and son of Tara Mia of Siddhirganj area.

Khadiza Begum, widow of the deceased, alleged that a local Awami League leader called Pervez at his home on Sunday night.

Later, he along with his son Mahid and 5-6 people beat up Pervez with a hammer, iron rod after branding him as a thief, leaving him dead.

Liakat Ali, officer-in-charge of Bandar police, said that the police recovered the body of Pervez early Monday and sent it to the local hospital morgue for an autopsy.

The police could not arrest anyone as Meser Ali along with others managed to flee the scene.
