The Rajshahi University authorities on Sunday relieved two teachers of tourism and hospitality management from all academic and departmental activities until an ongoing investigation into allegations brought against them was completed.
The teachers facing the investigation into sexual harassment allegations are assistant professors Sazu Sardar and Tanzil Bhuiyan.
Professor Akhtar Hossain Mazumder, administrator of the university鈥檚 public relations office, said that the decision was taken at the first meeting of the committee tasked with the investigation.
Earlier, students from the tourism and hospitality management department staged demonstrations and held a press conference on the campus, demanding permanent removal of the two teachers, accusing them of sexually harassing female students and threatening them with lawsuits.
Amid growing protests, the university formed a probe committee to investigate the allegations.
Professor Akhtar Hossain said that the decision to relieve the accused teachers from duty was taken to ensure a fair and impartial investigation.
