Leaders of Left Democratic Alliance on Sunday at a protest rally in Dhaka called on the interim government to refrain from their proposed plan of leasing the management of New Mooring terminal of Chattogram Port, Patenga and Mongla Port to the foreign companies.
The LDA, a coalition of six left political parties, organised the rally in front of the National Press Club protesting against leasing the management of different ports of the country to foreign companies, whereas the rally was chaired by its coordinator and also general secretary of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh, Bazlur Rashid Firoz.
Bazlur Rashid Firoz said that on Monday, November 17, in Dhaka, the interim government signed agreements with foreign companies to lease the management of the Laldia Terminal and Pangaon Port and the government was also planning to lease the managements of the New Mooring terminal of Chattogram Port, Patenga, and Mongla Port.
He called on the government to refrain from leasing the management of more companies and scrap the deals of leasing out two ports by December 3.
Firoz announced that if their demand is not met, LDA will hold a march toward Jamuna, the official residence of chief adviser, on December4.
Communist Party of Bangladesh president Kazi Sazzad Zahir Chandan, Democratic Revolutionary Party general secretary Mushrefa Mishu, SPB (Marxist) coordinator Masud Rana, Revolutionary Communist League central leader Nazrul Islam, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Party executive president Abdul Ali and SPB central leader Khalequzzaman Lipon also spoke at the rally.
The rally was followed by a protest procession that paraded several city roads.
