Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Saturday said that their demand for proportional representation would remain.
‘It has to be implemented in the interest of the people. Even if we come to power, we are giving our word that we will implement PR, Inshallah.’ He said.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the Chattogram College parade ground in the afternoon. He reached Chattogram at around 3:30pm by a helicopter.
The Jamaat chief said that the party was now focused on presenting a positive agenda for the country and would not spend time engaging in political provocation.
Regarding the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad elections, he said that there was no level-playing field, adding that it must be created together collectively.
‘You must prepare yourselves. The election has to be held in February. Otherwise, the country will plunge into a crisis. We will not allow any crisis to emerge, Inshallah,’ he added.
As per his pre-announced schedule, Dr Shafiqur Rahman attended the annual ‘mahfil’ at Al Jamiyatul Islamia in Chattogram’s Akbar Shah area. Later in the evening, he addressed ‘Election Responsibility Conference’ organised by the Jamaat-e-Islami Chattogram.
