Gazipur Agricultural University celebrated its 28th University Day with the theme ‘celebrating excellence, proudly leading the way in 2025’ at the GAU in Gazipur on Saturday.

The day commemorates the institution’s transformation from IPSA into Bangladesh’s 13th public university in 1998, said a press release.

GAU highlighted its recent national and global achievements, including top positions in THE Rankings 2025 and 2026, first place nationally and 77th globally in the WURI Ranking 2025 and recognition as the top agricultural university in the country by QS.

Researchers at GAU have so far developed 93 improved crop varieties and over 20 agricultural technologies, reinforcing the university’s role in national innovation.

The celebration began with the national anthem and flag hoisting led by vice-chancellor Professor GKM Mustafizur Rahman, followed by a symbolic balloon release and a rally across the campus.

A discussion featured remarks from the VC, pro-VC, treasurer and registrar, who emphasised the university’s growing global footprint and its commitment to excellence.

Professor Mustafizur Rahman stated, ‘GAU is moving forward and will continue to do so. The strong foundation we have built over 28 years is the result of the collective effort of our students, teachers, officers, staff and esteemed researchers.’

‘Today reminds us that we carry responsibility; we hold immense potential and we are shaping Bangladesh’s future in food security, agricultural innovation and sustainable development. Together, we will build a humane, research-friendly and modern university that stands as a global benchmark,’ he added.
