Kala Kendra organised a group art exhibition, titled ‘RE SEE’, showcasing two decades post-war Bangladeshi art practice at its gallery at Lalmatia in the capital.

The exhibition displayed diverse artworks, including paintings, sculptures, printmaking, and mixed-media works, mostly created from 1975 to 1995 by 14 renowned artists who received formal art education in post-war Bangladesh.

Most of the artworks depicted the social and political issues of that period created by artists Kazi Rakib, Dipa Haq, Ratan Mojumdar, Ruhul Amin Kajol, Dhali Al Mamoon, Dilara Begum Jolly, Nisar Hossain, Shishir Bhattacharjee, Saidul Haque Juise, Fareha Zeba, Habibur Rahman, Lala Rukh Selim, Towfiqur Rahman and Wakilur Rahman.

The artworks also reflected the transformations in the social, political, and cultural landscape of post-independence Bangladesh and also their influence on themes, subjects, and aesthetic language, as well as the impact of international trends, local art practices, and the artists’ own understandings.

Ratan Mojumdar’s print titled Ektara shows an Ektara displayed on the wall as a showpiece of a modern restaurant bar.

Saidul Haque Juise’s print series titled Mohachanna Somaj created in 1991 shows how religious extremism attracted the youth.

Dilara Begum Jolly’s print series titled Boss Series created in 1984 depicted domination of ruling class people over the working class people.

Dhali Al Mamoon’s oil on canvas titled in the time of pregnancy created in 1993 shows the controversial alliance between the right wing political parties and military forces.

The exhibition was inaugurated on October 31 and will end on Monday.
