Bangladesh confirmed bronze in the IKF Women’s Kabaddi World Cup by reaching the semi-finals of the tournament with a 40-31 win over Thailand in their Pool A final match at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in the city on Saturday.

In the day’s play, Thailand won the toss and opted to raid first. But Bangladesh went to the break with a 14-12 lead before bagging the remaining points in the second half with two lonas.


In today’s semi-final, Pool B runners-up Bangladesh will face Pool A winners Chinese Taipei at 5:00pm after the first semi-final between the Pool A champions and holders India and Pool B runners-up Iran at 4:00pm.

The final of the 11-team tournament will be held on Monday.

Bangladesh earlier started their campaign with a 42-22 win over Uganda before beating Germany 57-27 and conceding defeat to India by 43-18 points.

Bangladesh raider Brishti Biswas was determined to reach the final after their first medal in the World Cup.

‘Our target was to defeat Thailand, and we did it…We never thought for a moment that we would lose…Our next goal is, we definitely want to play in the final. We will not give up,’ Brishti told the media.

Bangladesh coach Shahnaj Parvin Maleka said, ‘Chinese Taipei are a very strong team. We will try to give our best to secure the win against them…Following the win over Thailand, the girls are more confident than before.‘
