Khulna鈥檚 Soumya Sarkar starred with a massive 186 while veteran Marshall Ayub played an unbeaten 118 for Dhaka on the opening day of the fifth-round fixtures of the ongoing National Cricket League on Saturday.
Marshall registered his 28th century and also reached 10,000 runs in first-class cricket as Dhaka scored 246-7 against Barishal Division at Cox鈥檚 Bazar Stadium.
Marshall became the fourth Bangladeshi batter to attain the feat in first-class cricket after Tushar Imran, Naeem Islam, and Mominul Haque.聽
Marhsall rescued Dhaka after they were reduced to a precarious 18-3 after opting to bat first. He hit 15 boundaries in his knock.
He formed a 135-run partnership with Ashikur Rahman Shibili, who made 64, to steady the innings.
However, Shibli鈥檚 departure triggered another collapse, but Marshall provided resistance before the bad light forced an early end to the day. Sumon Khan was batting on 12 along with Marshall at stumps.
Towhidul Islam picked up 3-42 for Barishal.
In the Khulna Divisional Stadium, Soumya鈥檚 hundred led the hosts to 328-6 at stumps against table-toppers Mymensingh.
Opting to bat, Khulna lost their opener Anamul Haque Bijoy (14) early, then Soumya added 230 runs for the second wicket with Kalam Siddiki, who made 77 runs, including 10 boundaries.
Soumya was next to depart when Shuvagata Hom (3-64) trapped him for lbw. He struck 24 boundaries and five sixes in his innings.
Afif Hossain and Ziaur Rahman were unbeaten at the crease on 13 and 8 runs, respectively.聽聽
Bowler Ifran Hossain (5-65) claimed a five-wicket haul as Chattogram maintained their dominance over Sylhet on the first day at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura.
After being put to bat first, Sylhet managed 255 after skipper Zakir Hasan鈥檚 fighting 73 and late contributions from Rejaur Raja (57) and Ashraful Hasan (46).
Chattogram, however, stumbled early as they were 19-1 at stumps, with Jasim Uddin and Ahmed Sharif batting on 13 and one.聽
At the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium, Mukidul Islam picked up 5-42 to restrict Rajshahi to 268 in their first innings.
Rajshahi skipper Sabbir Hosan top-scored with 84 with 12 fours and two sixes, while others struggled until Rahim Ahmed played a crucial 77-run knock to propel them cross the 250-mark.
