Religious affairs adviser AFM Khalid Hossain on Friday said that the Alems had to come forward to take the responsibilities of the state.
‘So far, the Alems are not getting involved in running the state, peace and happiness cannot be prevailed in the country,’ he said.
The adviser said this while addressing the annual gathering and dastarbandi ceremony at Al-Jamiahtul Ahlia Darul Uloom Muinul Islam Madrassah at Hathajari upazila in Chattogram as chief guest.
The adviser said that Alems must be proactive in increasing public engagement. There must be a relationship between the ulama-mashayekh and the people, he said, adding that they must look after the people and stay informed about their conditions.
He also urged the Alems to come forward to reform the existing state structure.
Highlighting the importance of self-purification, Khalid said, ‘Each of us has faults, we do not see our own faults, rather, we search for the faults of others. If I show respect to someone, I will get respect in return, but if I dishonour someone, Allah will dishonour me.’
Khalid further said, ‘Life is short, humans do not live long, time runs out before we realise it, power, money, wealth-none of these are permanent.’
‘There was a time in this country when people were executed under the orders of certain individuals but on Friday those people have been facing execution under the orders of others, he said, adding, ‘Therefore, we must always remember Allah and never incur His displeasure.’
Highlighting the importance of serving one’s teachers, the adviser said that a person’s life becomes enlightened through the blessings of being in the company of respected scholars. One can acquire good moral qualities in this way.
He emphasised on maintaining good relations with the ulama and seeking their blessings.
Presided over by the madrassah’s director general Allama Mufti Khalil Ahmad Qasemi, it was addressed among others by Allama Muhibbullah Babunagari, Allama Nurul Islam Walipuri and the madrassah’s education secretary Allama Mufti Kifayatullah.
During this two-day annual gathering, nearly 3,000 scholars who completed their Dawra-e-Hadith studies in the 1445–46 Hijri academic year will be honoured with ceremonial turbans.
