As in the other public university student union polls held this year, dope test has also been made compulsory for the student union election candidates at the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.
Candidates have been asked to do the test at the university’s biochemistry department lab and submit the receipt along with their nomination papers to the election commission that will collect the test result from the lab.
Those whose dope test results would come positive will have their candidacies disqualified, according to the code of conduct for the Shahjalal University Central Student Union polls to be held on December 17.
‘An aspirant have to voluntarily provide a sample for the drug test at the university’s Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and submit the collected receipt of the test along with the nomination paper. The election commission office will collect the dope test reports of all candidates,’ in accordance with the section of the code of conduct for collection, submission and withdrawal of nomination papers.
‘If the drug test result is positive, nomination of the candidate concerned will be considered as canceled. If necessary, the final opinion of the review committee formed by the election commission may be sought regarding the drug test report,’ mentioned in the section.
Professor Md Nazrul Islam, spokesperson of the SUST election commission, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Friday afternoon that the draft voter lists for both of the central student union and hall union election were already published on Thursday.
‘A total of 9,374 voters have been enlisted in the draft voter list. The final voter list will be published on Sunday,’ Professor Nazrul said.
According to the election schedule, nomination papers will be distributed in November 24–25 from 10:00am to 3:30pm and submission of the nomination papers will take place in November 25–26.
Verification of the submitted nomination papers will take place November 27 and the list of valid candidates will be published on November 28.
The deadline for withdrawal of candidacy is 3:30pm on November 30.
Appeals regarding candidacy will be accepted and resolved on December 1 and final list of candidates will be published on December 2.
