A team of the Rapid Action Battalion-2 arrested the alleged leader of a snatching gang from Mohammadpur in the capital.

The arrestee was ‘Rakta Chosha Gang’ leader Md Monir Hossain alias Rakta Chosha Johnny, 32, with a local made sharp weapon, said RAB-2 company commander Major Monjurul Kabir Piyal at a press briefing on Friday at its company headquarters at Basila.

He said that the team conducted a drive on early Friday in the Dhaka Udyan Housing area under the Mohammadpur police and arrested the gang leader.

Johnny is accused in five cases, including drugs, arms and attempted murder cases, said the RAB official.

Referring to case allegations and intelligence information, he mentioned that Johnny led a 23-member gang to create terror in Mohammapur, Dhaka Udyan, Nabodaya Housing, Chandrima Udyan and Nabinagar areas.

In primary questioning, the arrestee admitted that he carried out criminal activities, including snatching cash, mobile phones and other valuables from pedestrians at knifepoint, according to the RAB.

Earlier on October 4, Johnny’s men brutally attacked a tea stall owner Habibullah for asking for bill.

Legal action against the arrestee was under process, said Major Monjurul, adding that drives would continue to nab other crime suspects in the area.
