An elderly man was killed after being hit by a speeding pickup van while crossing a road in Demra鈥檚 Konapara area of the capital on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was Abdur Rashid, 79, a native of Brahmanbaria.
According to the local people, the accident occurred at around 1:30pm when Rashid was crossing the road.
They immediately rescued him and rushed him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared him dead around 2:30pm.
Rashid鈥檚 grandson, Tahsin Ahmed, said his grandfather was hit by a reckless pickup van while crossing the road in Konapara.
鈥榃e rushed him to Dhaka Medical after receiving the news, but the doctors told us that our grandfather had already passed away,鈥� he said.
Tahsin added that Rashid hailed from Brahmanbaria and had been living in a rented house in Demra.
Md Faruk, in-charge of the police camp at DMCH, said that the body was kept at the hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations and the police was informed.
