The consultation committee formed for submitting recommendations on quality improvement of the secondary education is going at a snail’s pace.
The committee has so far held one meeting and one workshop after its formation about a month ago.
It, however, is planning to organise series of workshops from the next month for getting opinions on the issue from different stakeholders.
The education ministry formed the 10-member committee on October 21 for quality improvement of the secondary education, infrastructural development and management of secondary education and improve the teaching and learning activities.
BRAC University professor emeritus Manzoor Ahmed, the convener of the committee, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they were planning to hold series of workshops from December to get opinions from different stakeholders.
‘We have been given three months to submit recommendations,’ he said.
One of the committee members, Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education director (secondary wing) professor Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, said that so far one meeting and one workshop had been conducted under the committee.
The other members of the committee are Dhaka University’s Institute of Education and Research associate professor Mohammad Mahboob Morshed, former Secondary and Higher Education Division additional secretary Md Belayet Hossain Talukder, former Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Chattogram chairman Shahida Islam, Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education deputy director (Dhaka area) Md Mustafizur Rahman, journalist Md Musa Miah, former Sher-E-Bangla Nagar Govt Boys’ High School head teacher Md Shafiqur Rahman and former Armanitola Government High School head teacher AKM Mostafa Kamal.
The Secondary and Higher Education Division joint secretary (government secondary section) Tarafdar Md Akhter Jamil is the member secretary of the committee.
The education ministry on October 21 issued an office order regarding the formation of the committee.
According to the office order, the committee will complete its work within three months from the issuance of the order and submit the recommendations to the ministry.
The committee will review the existing teaching and learning activities, training and skills development activities, research and overall management structure in secondary education and submit recommendations for the issues and determine the demand for the necessary reforms of the secondary education management structure by consulting the stakeholders.
The order added that the committee could take opinions from experts, educationists or others, hold workshops and inspect any institute under the ministry.
Earlier the primary and mass education ministry formed a consultation committee on quality improvement of primary and non-formal education in September past year and the committee submitted a set of recommendations in February 2025.
Professor Manzoor was the convener of that committee too. Â
