The Bangladesh government on Monday once again called on the Indian government to extradite deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan as both were sentenced to death by an international crimes tribunal in Dhaka earlier on the day.

The foreign ministry in a press release made the fresh call to send back the convicts hiding in India hours after the ICT handed down the death sentence to Hasina and Asaduzzaman for committing crimes against humanity during the July mass uprising that led to the fall of the authoratarian Awami League regime on August 5.

Dhaka also reminded New Delhi of the extradition treaty between the two neighbours.

The interim government in December formally requested India to send back Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India on August 5 last year.

The Indian government has not yet responded to Dhaka鈥檚 request.
