Chief election commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin on Sunday reiterated his request for cooperation from political parties to hold the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections in a free, neutral, and acceptable environment.
He made the call during the commission’s dialogue for the second day with representatives of 12 political parties at the Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon in Dhaka.
The CEC said, ‘The national-level politicians have the power to influence voters. Their cooperation is essential.’
He added that a fair election largely depends on proper compliance with the electoral code of conduct and the political leaders must carefully read it and ensure that their party activists follow it.
On the second day of the commission’s two separate dialogue sessions on Sunday,  representatives of Ganoforum, Gano Front, Islamic Front Bangladesh, Islami Oikya Jote, Bangladesh Supreme Party–BSP, Bangladesh National Party, Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal– Bangladesg Jasod, Bangladesh National Awami Party - Bangladesh NAP, Trinamool BNP, Krishak Sramik Janata League, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, and Islami Andolan Bangladesh participated.
In the morning session, the EC did not allow a faction of the Islami Oikya Jote, led by Abul Hasanat Amini, to attend the dialogue.
The EC senior secretary, Akhtar Ahmed, asked the faction representatives to leave the place, as the party’s other faction secretary general, Sakhawat Hossain Raji, strongly opposed their presence, labelling them as the ‘collaborators of fascism’.
While asked to show an invitation letter from the EC, Hasanat Amini could not show any hard copy of the letter inviting them to join the dialogue.
