Travel writer Mohua Rouf received the Anannya Literary Award 1432 at an award programme held at Bengal Shilpalay in the capital on Saturday.

The ceremony was presided over by Tasmima Hossain, editor of Anannya, a fortnightly magazine, and The Daily Ittefaq, said a press release.

In her remarks, Tasmima noted that this is the first time Anannya has honoured a travel writer.

‘There are very few women in Bangladesh writing in this genre, Mohua has introduced a fresh dimension to travel literature,’ she said.

Awardee Mohua said, ‘I was born in Bangladesh and I am Bengali, but I consider myself a global citizen, I also believe I have a share in the deep Amazon forests and in the vast desert landscapes because since my teenage years, I have dreamt of seeing the world.’

The ceremony began with the screening of a documentary on the award recipient.

She received a crest, and Tk 1,00,000 as prize money at the programme.

Anannya magazine has been conferring the Anannya Literary Award since 1993, Bangla year 1401, honouring women writers for their outstanding contributions to literature.
