Immigration authorities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka barred Bangladesh Nationalist Party acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s former assistant private secretary from flying to Malaysia as bullets were found in his bag.

The ex-APS, Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu, who got BNP’s primary nomination for Shariatpur 3 constituency for the next parliament election, was going to Malaysia Friday afternoon, according to the police and airport authorities.


Nuruddin Apu was barred from flying after several 3.2 bore bullets were recovered from his bag at about 3:00pm during checking, an official of Airport police told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Saturday.

‘Nuruddin told us that the bullets were mistakenly remained in his bag. We removed the bullets from his bag. However, he was denied flying abroad,’ the official added.

Nuruddin was released on bail after spending about five years and seven months in prison over a money laundering case on August 6 past year, a day after the authoritarian Awami League government was ousted amid a student-led uprising on August 5.

Earlier on June 29, a magazine containing bullets was found in a bag of local government, rural development and cooperatives adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan at the airport while he was going to Morocco by a Turkish Airlines flight.

Asif said that the magazine was remained there mistakenly.

However, the magazine along with the bullets was removed from his bag and he went aboard.
