Amenities in institutions offering education from secondary to master’s reduced in 2024 compared with 2023, government data show.
Some amenities include computer, science and digital laboratories, multimedia, ramps, annual development plans, shaheed minar, separate toilets and solar panels.
The Bangladesh Education Statistics 2024 shows  that the decline in facilities is significant in madrassahs while the number of madrassahs increased in the period.
The Bangladesh Bureau of Educational Information and Statistics prepared the Bangladesh Education Statistics–2024 based on a countrywide survey.
According to the latest Bangladesh Education Statistics, in 2024, there were 2,547 junior secondary schools, 16,570 secondary schools, 1,514 school sections of schools and colleges, 4,876 higher secondary colleges, college sections of schools and colleges,  degree pass, degree honours and master’s colleges, and 9,269 Dakhil, Alim, Fazil, and Kamil madrassahs in the country.
There were 2,406Â junior secondary schools, 16,562Â secondary schools, 1,480Â school section of school and colleges, 4,821 colleges and 9,259 madrassahs in 2023.
The bureau has no updated statistics on the qawmi madrassahs as those are not registered with the government authorities.
As per the quality indicators of the Bangladesh Education Statistics, the number of secondary schools having solar systems dropped to 6,186 in 2024 from 7,045 in 2023, the number of multimedia facilities dropped to 14,342 in 2024 from 15,024 in 2023, and toilet facilities for boys dropped to 16,470 in 2024 from 16,505 in 2023.
The percentage of secondary schools preparing Annual Development Plan dropped to 42.72 per cent in 2024 from 56.04 per cent in 2023, while percentage of secondary schools having shaheed minar dropped to 65.33 per cent from 66.07 per cent, science laboratory dropped to 61.02 per cent from 61.57 per cent, ramp dropped to 17.25 per cent from 17.45 per cent, computer lab dropped to 40.25 per cent from 41.3 per cent, digital lab dropped to 33.12 per cent from 33.9 per cent, and basic hand wash facilities dropped to 96.44 per cent from 97.13 per cent.
The number of colleges with solar systems dropped to 1,403 in 2024 from 1,551 in 2023, and the number of multimedia facilities dropped to 3,906 in 2024 from 3,978 in 2023.
The percentage of colleges preparing Annual Development Plan dropped to 36.32 per cent in 2024 from 48.68 per cent in 2023, while colleges having ramp dropped to 11.57 per cent from 20.11 per cent, shaheed minar dropped to 67.51 per cent from 67.52 per cent, computer lab dropped to 64.13 per cent from 70.75 per cent, digital lab dropped to 36.12 per cent from 37.77 per cent, and basic hand wash facilities dropped to 96.35 per cent from 96.76 per cent.
The number of madrassahs having solar system dropped to 2,944 in 2024 from 4,389 in 2023, computer dropped to 6,172 in 2024 from 7,797 in 2023, internet connection dropped to 6,172 in 2024 from 7,013 in 2023, toilet facilities for girls dropped to 8,668 in 2024 from 8,734 in 2023, toilet facilities for boys dropped to 7,672 in 2024 from 7,773 in 2023 and toilet facilities for teachers dropped to 7,877 in 2024 from 8,012 in 2023.
The percentage of madrassahs preparing Annual Development Plan dropped to 41.72 per cent in 2024 from 95.83 per cent in 2023, while madrassahs having ramp dropped to 7.71 per cent from 24.78 per cent, shaheed minar dropped to 17.37 per cent from 19.86 per cent, science lab dropped to 25.67 per cent from 36.01 per cent, computer lab dropped to 13.23 per cent from 20.39 per cent, CC camera dropped to 12.7 per cent from 95.81 per cent, using teaching materials dropped to 68.66 per cent from 93.01 per cent and multimedia class room dropped to 92.2 per cent from 93.93 per cent.
As per the 2023 BANBEIS report, the number of junior secondary schools was 2,406, secondary schools was 16,562, school section of school and colleges was 1,480, colleges was 4,821 (college section of school and college, higher secondary college, degree pass college, degree honours college, and master’s college)  and Dakhil, Alim, Fazil and Kamil madrassahs was 9,259 in 2023.
