Three people, including a local leader of the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, were murdered in three incidents in Chattogram Thursday night.

The deceased are Abdul Mannan, 40, a vice-president of Sramik Dal鈥檚 Sarafbhata union unit in Rangunia upazila, Akash Ghosh, 26, a mobile phone technician, and Abdullah Al Masud, 32, an electrician of Fatikchhari upazila.

Of them, Mannan was shot dead, Akash was stabbed to death and Masud was beaten to death, the police said.

The police said that Mannan was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Bulainner Bari Tek in South Rangunia at about 10:00pm on Thursday.

The assailants opened fire targeting him near the Khetbazar area, leaving him dead on the spot, said South Rangunia police station officer-in-charge Sabbir Mohammad Selim.

He said that Mannan was supposed to attend a wedding ceremony Thursday night, but the family did not know why he went to Sarafbhata instead.

The OC said that no case was filed and none was arrested so far in this connection until Friday evening.

In a separate incident, a mobile servicing shop owner Akash Ghosh was stabbed to death at Chattogram city鈥檚 Enayet Bazar Kasaipara area Thursday night.

Family members said that Akash had been demanding payment from his acquaintance Sunny, who owed him money for replacing a mobile display.

During an argument over the unpaid dues, Sunny and his associates stabbed Akash repeatedly and fled.

Kotwali police station OC Abdul Karim said the killing occurred following a dispute over money.

He said that they arrested Sunny for his alleged involvement in the murder.

Meanwhile, Abdullah Al Masud, an electrician from Fatikchhari鈥檚 North Dhurung area, died at a private Hospital in the city Thursday night. He was attacked with iron rods and sticks, allegedly due to previous enmity.

The police said that Masud was assaulted by several local youths on Wednesday night and he was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition.

Fatikchhari police station OC Nur Ahmad said that Masud鈥檚 brother Abdullah Al Rashid filed a murder case Thursday night, naming two individuals and accusing four or five unidentified persons.

He said police had arrested two suspects, Md Osman and Md Afaz uddin, for their alleged involvement in the murder.聽
