Ganosamhati Andolan leaders on Friday welcomed the government’s announcement to hold the next general election and referendum on the same day in the first half of February next year.

They welcomed the announcement at a rally in front of the National Museum at the capital’s Shahbagh to mark the party’s 10th founding anniversary,


Addressing the rally as the chair, the party chief coordinator Zonayed Saki urged the government to hold the election as per the announced time for the democratic transition of the country.

He called on all the political parties to remain united until holding a free, fair and credible general election in February.

He said that his party would take part in the election with its electoral symbol, Mathal, or farmers’ hat.

He urged the voters to cast their votes for Mathal for the formation of a new Bangladesh where people would enjoy their rights.

The party executive coordinator, Abul Hassan Rubel, called on the interim government to take steps to inform voters about how they would cast their votes during the referendum.

Ganosamhati central leader Taslima Akhter demanded the implementation of the rights of the workers.

She also demanded that a democratic labour law be formulated by scrapping all the undemocratic sections from the law.

Central leader Dipok Roy conducted the rally.

The rally was followed by a procession that paraded through various roads in Shahbagh, Hatirpool, Bangla Motor, and Eskaton areas.

Participants joined the rally and procession by wearing Mathal.
