India stood out as the best-performing nation in both individual and team events, while the hosts, Bangladesh, secured one silver and one bronze medal as the eight-day-long 24th Asian Archery Championships concluded at the Army Stadium in the city on Friday.
India topped the medals table with a total of 10 medals, comprising six gold, three silver, and one bronze. South Korea followed closely behind, also with 10 medals, but with a different distribution: two gold, four silver, and four bronze.
Bonna Akter and Himu Bachhar gave Bangladesh their maiden medal in the compound category in Asian archery when the pair won silver by reaching the compound mixed team event final in the championships.
Bonna and Himu lost the final by 151-153 points to the Indian pair Deepshikha and Abhishek Verma.
Kulsum Akter secured bronze for Bangladesh after she beat Si-yu Chen of Chinese Taipei by 145-144 points in the bronze final of the women鈥檚 compound individual event, following a 146-145 defeat to India鈥檚 Prithika Pradeep in the semi-final.
On the final day, South Korea won gold with a 6-0 set-point victory over Chinese Taipei in the women鈥檚 recurve team final, while India won gold in the men鈥檚 recurve team event by beating South Korea in tie-breaker after the game was tied on 4-4 sets.
In the recurve mixed team event final, Chinese Taipei earned gold with a comfortable 6-2 set-point win over Uzbekistan.
India鈥檚 Ankita Bhakat won gold in the women鈥檚 recurve individual event after beating South Korea鈥檚 Nam Su-hyeon by 7-3 set points in the final of the event.
In the men鈥檚 recurve individual final, India鈥檚 Dhiraj Bommadevara defeated compatriot Rahul by 6-2 set points to win the gold.
Meanwhile, youth and sports ministry adviser to the interim government, Asif Mahmud Sojib Bhuiyan, announced a cash reward of Tk 10 lakh each for the three medal winners of the Bangladesh archers during the awards giving ceremony of the championships.
