A murder case was filed on Friday over the killing of a judge’s teenage son inside their rented flat in Rajshahi city, a day after the 15-year-old boy was fatally stabbed in an attack that also left his mother critically injured.
Judge Abdur Rahman filed the case with Rajpara police station on Friday afternoon, naming Limon Mia as the lone accused, said Gaziur Rahman, deputy commissioner for Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime and additional deputy commissioner (crime, operations and media) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.
The police detained Limon, son of HM Solaiman Shahid of Modonerpara village under Fulchhari upazila in Gaibandha, from the scene immediately after the incident and later showed him arrested in the case.
‘The accused will be produced before the court. The motive will become clearer after interrogation,’ he said.
Meanwhile, the autopsy of the victim, Tawshif Rahman Suman, was completed on Friday at Rajshahi Medical College.
Speaking to journalists, associate professor Kafil Uddin, head of the forensic team, said the boy died from massive external and internal bleeding caused by deep stab wounds inflicted with a sharp, pointed weapon.
‘Major blood vessels at three sites were severed, leading to fatal blood loss,’ he said, identifying the injuries on the right thigh, right leg and left arm.
He added that bruising marks noted on the neck during the police inquest were consistent with an attempted smothering using a soft object, though this was ‘not the primary cause of death.’
The stabbing and attempted suffocation likely occurred around the same time, he said.
The attack took place on Thursday afternoon at the family’s flat in the Dabtala area of Rajshahi city, where the judge lived with his wife and son.
Suman, a ninth-grader, was stabbed inside the home, while his mother, Tasmin Nahar Lucy, 44, sustained serious injuries and is being treated at RMCH.
Police said the accused, Limon Mia, was also injured during the scuffle and is currently receiving treatment under custody.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Judicial Service Association on Friday warned that lower court judges would stage a pen-down protest from Sunday if their two-point charter of demands was not met within 48 hours.
Their demands are: enhanced security for courts, judges’ residences and official vehicles, and disciplinary action against the police officers who presented the accused before the media after the killing.
