A man died after falling into the Turag River while he was trying to flee from a crowd that chased him for allegedly setting a bus ablaze at Mirpur in the capital on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Saiyaf, 18, said a press release by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police issued on Friday.
Local people caught another suspect, later handed over to police, said the police.
According to the police, the incident occurred at about 10:00pm when a group of young men set a parked bus on fire and started recording the video on their mobile phones near Sohel Engineering Workshop in North Nawaberbagh under Shah Ali police station.
As the bus caught fire, locals chased two suspects. One was caught on the spot while the other named Saiyaf jumped into the river.
Local people rescued Saiyaf and rushed him to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, where on-duty doctor declared him dead.
