Islamic University in Kushtia has withdrawn the suspension of five students reportedly involved in a bus vandalism incident on campus.
The decision was announced in separate notices signed by the acting registrar Professor M Monjurul Haque Wednesday evening.
The five students are Shahriar Nazim of biotechnology and genetic engineering, Mostafizur Rahman Saem, Abdul Mannan Luman, Syed Sajid Hossain and Takbir Hasan Hriday of marketing.
The suspensions were imposed following an incident on January 22, when students blocked a bus over alleged misconduct by its supervisor and damaged the vehicle.
Shahriar Nazim and Mostafizur Rahman had been suspended for one year, while the rest three faced six-month suspensions.
The syndicate, at its 271st general meeting on October 30, reviewed the investigation committee鈥檚 report and decided to revoke the suspensions, the registrar said.
The university administration also directed department heads to obtain written pledges from students promising to avoid similar misconduct in the future, he added.
During the incident, clashes reportedly occurred between the vandals and coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement.
A four-member committee had been formed to investigate the matter and recommend appropriate action.
