His Royal Highness Dom Durate Pio, the Duke of Braganza, Portugal, on Thursday visited the Community Against Poverty Foundation Village established at Chhalia under sadar upazila in Sylhet on Thursday noon.
Other royal family members were HRM Isabel Ines De Castro C. De Heredia De Braganza and HRH Afsono De Santa Maria De Braganza.
The royal family members and staff of the Foundation, a humanitarian relief and charity organisation, accompanied the duke of Braganza during his visit in the village.
They inspected different infrastructures including three dormitories for students, school of excellence, mosque and the site for indoor sports complex on the Foundation Village, The Guardians, which is established to accommodate 100 orphan boys and provide them with nurturing, living, teaching, health care and wellbeing facilities.Â
During the visit, they also inaugurated a lake on the campus, established on a 180-decimal land, and also attended a children’s drawing competition.
Apart from other distinguished guests, founder and CEO of the CAP Foundation Village in Sylhet, Noor Humayun, presented information about the projects to the royal family.
After the visit, the royal family representatives stated that their trip to Bangladesh was aimed at extending support and goodwill.
They further mentioned that the Foundation Village in Sylhet stands as a symbol of recognition and solidarity for the foundation’s dedicated work towards the welfare of orphans and underprivileged children.   Â
Responding to journalists, HRM Dom Durate Pio, the Duke of Braganza, said that he was deeply impressed to see how thoughtfully this institution has been established in such a truly rural setting in Bangladesh.
‘We want to provide greater support to more underprivileged and orphaned children and to ensure a promising future, we hope that a larger number of orphans will come under the care of the Foundation Village,’ he said.
Noor Humayun told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· in the afternoon that the royal family members agreed to attend the inaugural ceremony of the Foundation Village as well as its academic activities of the School of Excellence supposed to be held in September next year.
Among others, CAP Foundation Village’s chief patron retired Brigadier General Abu Sayed Md Baquee, Sheikh Aliur Rahman KGOR OBE, and legal adviser Barrister Mainul Islam, accompanied the royal family during the visit.
