Political and cultural organisations on Wednesday continued their protest at the government’s decision to cancel the newly created positions of music and physical training teachers in government primary schools.
Samajtantrik Chhatra Front and Charon Sanskritic Kendra organised a protest rally demanding the reinstatement of the posts for music and physical training teachers at primary schools in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh in Dhaka city, said a press release.Â
They alleged that the interim government surrendered to Islamist groups that led them to cancel the posts.
They also said that the fallen Awami League regime also gave in to the pressure of the vested interest groups and brought many changes in the syllabus.
Such surrender to the pressure of the vested group would harm the country’s children, they said.
The speakers also condemned the government’s failure to control mob violence and killing workers who took to the streets to demand wages.Â
The rally, chaired by Charon Sangskritik Kendra president Nikhil Das, was addressed, among others, by Samajtantrik Chhatra Front president Mukta Baroi and organising secretary Suhail Ahmed Shuvo and Charon general secretary Zakir Hossain.
The government, in a notification on November 2, scrapped the positions of music teacher and physical training instructors at primary schools by changing the Government Primary School Teacher Recruitment Rules 2025 in the wake of criticisms by Islamist groups.
The government, on August 28, issued a notification introducing the positions of two assistant teachers—one for music and the other for physical training.
Since the cancellation of the posts, protests continue to pour in from political and socio-cultural organisations against the decision.
