Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee for breaching ICC Code of Conduct during the opening day of their first Test against Ireland in Sylhet, confirmed the ICC on Wednesday.聽
鈥楴ahid was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to 鈥渢hrowing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match鈥,鈥 the ICC said in a press release.聽聽
Nahid was also handed one demerit point for his action, which was the first offence in a 24-month period.
The incident occurred in the 27th over of Ireland鈥檚 innings, when Nahid fielded the ball on his follow-through and threw it inappropriately, hitting batter Cade Carmichael鈥檚 pads even though the batter had not moved out of the crease.
As Nahid accepted the sanction proposed by the ICC match referee Andy Pycroft, no formal hearing was needed.聽
Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player鈥檚 match fee, and one or two demerit points.
According to the code of conduct of the ICC, when a player reaches four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, they are converted into suspension points and a player is banned.
