Bangladesh beat strong South Korea to advance into the final of the compound mixed event of the ongoing 24th Asian Archery Championships at the National Stadium on Wednesday.Â
In one of the two semi-finals, Bangladesh’s Bonna Akter and Himu Bachhar defeated their South Korean counterparts Jongho Kim and Yerin Park by 158-153 (39-37, 39-38, 40-39, 40-39) points.
Bangladesh will face India in the gold medal decider at the Army Stadium today. While India beat Kazakhstan 156-153 in the other semi-final.
Bangladesh began their elimination round campaign with a 154-148 point victory over Bhutan. In the quarter-finals, they faced Iran, where the match ended 154-154 before the hosts secured a thrilling 19-18 win in tie-breaker.Â
‘So far, we haven’t had any remarkable results, but I hope this time will be different. In 2024, I won silver in the individual event in Bhutan. I’ve been in the national team for nine years now, and I’m hopeful that something good will happen this time,’ said Bonna.
In the recurve mixed event, Bangladesh made a promising start but failed to maintain their rhythm.
After receiving a bye in the opening stage of the elimination round, the pair of Sima Akter Shimu and Ram Krishna Saha advanced to the quarter-finals by defeating Kazakhstan by 5-4 set points (34-32, 36–36, 37-32, 37–37).
However, in the quarter-finals, Bangladesh faced a strong Indian team, and were eliminated after a 5-1 defeat in set points (36–38, 36–36, 35–37).
