Another person injured in Monday’s clash between two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party in Chardumuria village, Mollakandi union, under Munshiganj Sadar upazila, died on Tuesday, taking the death toll to two.
The deceased, Rayhan Khan, 22, son of Rustam Khan of Chardumuria village, died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Locals said Monday’s clash erupted from a longstanding dispute between Arif, a supporter of former union BNP joint general secretary Awlad Hossain, and a group of followers of district BNP convening committee member Atik Mallik over establishing dominance in the area.
Arif Mir was killed in the clash on Monday, while Imran Mir and Rayhan, among others, sustained bullet injuries.
Munshiganj Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Sajib De confirmed the death of Rayhan and said that Arif’s family had not filed any complaint yet.
‘If they do, legal action will be taken,’ he added.
Earlier, a factional clash between the same two groups left a youth, Tuhin Sarkar, dead in front of Munshikandi Primary School under the same upazila on November 2.
It is alleged that the two groups have been at odds over the inclusion of Awami League members following the ouster of the Awami League regime on August 5, 2024.
The dispute had previously led to another clash on September 5, which left eight people injured by gunfire.Â
