Soumya Sarkar and Mahadi Hasan鈥檚 half-centuries helped Khulna secure a narrow two-wicket win over Chattogram in the third-round fixture of the National Cricket League at Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium in Chattogram on Tuesday.
Soumya, who struck 92 in the first innings, made 71 off 90 as Khulna chased down 237-8 to guide his side to the top of the table after winning two of the three matches.
Resuming the day on 52-0, Khulna lost overnight batters Soumya and Amit Mojumder early in the day, leaving the side to 106-2.
However, Khulna lost four more wickets before reaching the 150-mark; however, Mahedi played an unbeaten 50 to take his side home.
Shahrear Sakib also contributed 33 and Nahidul Islam scored 22.
Chattogram spinner Nayeem Hasan returned with 5-105, marking his 10th five-wicket haul.
Barishal romped to their first win in three games as they defeated Rajshahi by 54 runs at the Khulna Divisional Stadium.
Tanvir Islam (4-52) and Yeasin Arafat (4-41) shared eight wickets between them to wrap up Rajshahi for 191 while chasing a target of 246.聽
Despite a good start, Rajshahi lost their way at the end of the first session, when Tanvir struck twice to remove Mizanur (25) and Shakhir Hossain for a duck.
Sabbir Rahman also fell on 33. Then, Rahim Ahmed (33) and Nihaduzzaman (29) tried to resist, but the bowlers ensured the victory for the side.
The match between Sylhet and Rangpur ended in a draw at the Cox鈥檚 Bazar Cricket Stadium.
Resuming on 173-5, Sylhet declared their innings on 294-9 after Mubin Ahmed鈥檚 141-run knock, setting Rangpur a target of 249.
In reply, Rangpur reached 112-4 to conclude the game.聽
Earlier, Sylhet posted 199 in their first innings and Rangpur were wrapped up for 245, taking a 46-run lead.
In the Cox鈥檚 Bazar Academy Ground, the other match between Mymensingh and Dhaka also ended in a tame draw.
Resuming on 225-4, Dhaka were all out for 388 in their first innings, taking a 52-run lead. Anisul Islam Emon played an unbeaten 79-run innings.
Mymensingh scored 97-0 at the close of the day with Mahfijul Islam and Naim Sheikh at the crease on 51 and 44 runs, respectively.
