At least three buses were burnt in three incidents in Rayerbagh, Jatrabari and Uttara areas in Dhaka on early Tuesday.
According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters’ control room, the first incident took place at about 1:00am in Rayerbagh, where a parked bus of Rajdhani Paribahan was set on fire by unidentified miscreants.
After an hour, a parked bus of Raida Paribahan was set ablaze in Jatrabari area at about 2:00am and another parked bus of the same company was torched in Uttara’s Khalpar area of Sonargaon Janapath at about 4:00am.
Fire Service and Civil Defence control room station officer Rashed Din Khalid said that fire service teams rushed to the spots after receiving the news and extinguished the flames from the parked buses.
The causes of the arson attacks were yet to be determined, he said, adding that no casualties were reported in the incidents.
Law enforcement agencies are investigating the incidents.
Earlier, at least three buses were also burnt in three incidents in the capital’s Dhanmondi, Shahjadpur and Merul Badda and at least 14 crude bombs were exploded in eight incidents in Agargaon, Mohammadpur, Dhanmondi, Mirpur, Khilgaon and Mouchak on Monday.
The incidents occurred days after the Awami League, whose activities are currently banned, announced a Dhaka Lockdown on social media for November 13, the day the ICT is scheduled to set the date for delivering its verdict in a crimes against humanity case against Awami League president and ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina for atrocities committed across the country during the July uprising.
