England-born Bangladeshi midfielder Cuba Mitchell got his maiden national call-up ahead of Bangladesh’s FIFA friendly against Nepal and AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers against India on Saturday.

Bangladesh will take on Nepal on November 13 before facing India on November 18 at the National Stadium in Dhaka.

The 19-year-old Cuba Mitchell, who is a product of the Birmingham City Academy, previously played for Sunderland’s Under-21 and Under-18 teams before transferring to Bashundhara Kings, the five-time champions of the Bangladesh Football League, in August of this year.

Apart from Cuba, Bangladesh national team Spanish coach Javier Cabrera also called another new face, the 16-year-old Fortis Football Club midfielder Mursed Ali, to the squad.

With their inclusions, Cabrera expanded the squad to 29 members from the previous 27, which includes Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury and Cavalry FC midfielder Shamit Shome.

Hamza is scheduled to join the camp today, while Shamit is expected to join on Tuesday. Bangladesh started the camp on October 30.

Cabrera called the two new players due to injury to forward Mohammad Ibrahim and defender Rahmat Mia.

‘We are very aware of his [Cuba’s] talent. We are expecting him to get some playtime. We also called Morshed,’ Cabrera told the reporters during Sunday’s practice session at the Kings Arena.

‘We discussed Ibrahim and Rahmat’s injuries and looked for what could be the best option. We got the conclusion that we could give opportunity to players with potential, which is what we have been thinking for some time,’ said Cabrera.
