A man was beaten and hacked to death allegedly over a dispute centring on establishing dominance at Begumganj upazila in Noakhali on Friday night.
The deceased was Abdul Kader Jilani, 42, also known as Kan Kata Kadera, son of聽聽 Mohammed Gufran, from Chaumuhani municipality.
Local people and police said that a group of assailants attacked Kader near Cherang Bari Dorja in Hajipur union at about 9:30pm, beat him indiscriminately and hacked him on the head, leaving him dead on the spot. The attackers fled after confirming his death.
Kader had several cases against him, including assault and drug-related charges, police said. Locals claimed that the killing stemmed from longstanding rivalry among local youths.
Liton Dewan, officer-in-charge of Begumganj police, said that the police recovered the body at night and sent it to Noakhali General Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Further action will be taken after receiving a written complaint, Liton added.聽聽聽
