Founding general secretary of the Bangladesh Archery Federation and an executive member of the current committee, Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapol, has been elected president of World Archery Asia on Saturday.
He secured 29 votes in an electronic voting held at a city hotel, defeating his South Korean rival, Thomas Han.Â
Chapol – former general secretary of the BAF and a member of the World Archery Electoral Board – will take charge of Archery Asia for a four-year tenure by replacing Chung Eui-sun, who served Archery Asia as president since 2005.
Han, the current secretary general of Archery Asia, received nine votes out of a total of 38 cast by voters. Notably, Chung Eui-sun – executive chairman and CEO of Hyundai Motor Group - did not participate in this election.
Chapol, a veteran sports organiser of the country, earlier served Archery Asia as a vice-president.
He is now serving as the chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the 24th Asian Archery Championships 2025 that began at the National Stadium, Dhaka, on Saturday.
With this victory, Chapal becomes the first Bangladeshi ever to lead the continental governing body of archery while BAF general secretary Tanvir Ahmed was elected Asia Para Archery president and archery coach Nur-e-Alam was elected as a member of the coaches committee of the Asian Archery in the elections.
