The Palestinian health ministry said Thursday that Israeli troops shot dead a teenager in the occupied West Bank, while the military accused him of throwing explosives at soldiers.
The Ramallah-based ministry identified the 15-year-old as Murad Saifin, who according to the military had been killed late on Wednesday.
The ministry said the incident took place in the town of Al-Yamun, west of Jenin.
Late on Wednesday the military said its troops had killed a militant in the area of Al-Yamun.
‘During operational activity of soldiers in the Al Yamun area, a terrorist hurled an explosive at the soldiers, who responded with fire and eliminated the terrorist,’ the Israeli military said.
In a separate incident, the Palestinian Authority reported the death of an elderly Palestinian woman from a heart attack when Israeli forces raided her home on Thursday.
The PA’s media office identified the woman as Haniya Hanoun, and said she was pushed around by soldiers who had come to arrest her grandson in their home near Ramallah.
The army told AFP it was looking into the incident.
Violence in the West Bank, which Israel has occupied since 1967, has soared since the war in Gaza broke out in October 2023.
At least 999 Palestinians, including militants, have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces or settlers since the start of the far bloodier aggression in Gaza, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
During the same period, 43 Israelis, including soldiers, have been killed in Palestinian attacks in the West Bank, according to official Israeli figures.
