Bridges division secretary and executive director of Bangladesh Bridge Authority Mohammad Abdur Rouf visited the bridge construction project area over Meghna and Dhanagoda rivers at the junction of Matlab Uttar in Chandpur and Gazaria in Munshiganj on Thursday.
Officials of bridges division, Bangladesh Bridge Authority, project director, project officials and upazila executive officers of both sides and local administration officials were present at this time, said a press release.Â
Abdur Rouf inspected the alignment and river management area of the bridge starting from Bhaberchar on Dhaka–Chatogram Highway at Gazaria to Matlab North of Chandpur.
At the same time, he emphasised the importance of identifying the technical challenges of the project such as river depth, current speed and geological conditions.
During the inspection, the bridge secretary said, ‘One of the goals of the government is to develop non-discriminatory, cost-effective connectivity. This bridge is being built as part of this initiative.’
‘The bridge is the economic gateway to Chandpur,’ he mentioned, adding, ‘The current long and time-consuming road connection between this region and Dhaka will be reduced through this bridge and an alternative communication system will be established.’
If the bridge is built, it will reduce the pressure on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway and bring this region directly into the mainstream of the national economy, he said.
