Dengue death toll crosses 300 so far this year, as at least 10 more people died of the disease and 1,069 others were hospitalised across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours until 8:00am Wednesday.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services, including the latest deaths this year 302 people died and 74,992 others were hospitalised with the viral fever.
Among the latest victims, three died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, two at Labaid Hospital, two at Kurmitola General Hospital, one at聽 Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital鈥攁ll in Dhaka city and one at 250 Bed General Hospital in Bhola and one at Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Among the hospitalisations, 5,130 people were admitted to hospitals in the first five days of November, while 24 others died of dengue at the same time.
According to DGHS data, at least 10 people died of dengue in January, three in February, seven in April, three in May, 19 in June, 41 in July, and 76 in September.
No death was reported in March.
Besides, the country recorded hospitalisation of 1,161 dengue patients in January, 374 in February,聽 336 in March, 701 in April, 1,773 in May, 5,951 in June, 10,684 in July, 10,496 in August, and 15,866 others in September.
The vector-borne disease arises as a serious public health concern in the country over past several years.
A dengue outbreak was first officially reported in the country in 2000 when 93 people died and 5,551 patients were hospitalised, according to DGHS data.
Dengue killed 1,705 people and sent 3,21,179 others to hospitals in 2023 alone against 853 deaths and 2,44,246 hospitalisations between 2000 and 2022, the DGHS data showed.
Last year, the country witnessed a severe dengue outbreak that resulted in 575 deaths and 1,01,214 reported cases. During the period 1,00,040 patients recovered.
