Bangladesh Postal Department’s financial service provider Nagad has disbursed approximately Tk 1,650 crore to over 78 lakh beneficiaries during the ongoing financial year 2025-26, said a press release.
The beneficiaries received the money under various social safety net programmes of the Department of Social Services and the Mother and Child Benefit Programme of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
More than 75 lakh beneficiaries received their social safety net allowances amounting to about Tk 1,624 crore directly into their Nagad wallets.
The recipients comprised elderly, widows, marginalised people, persons with disabilities, members of the Bede community, and third-gender individuals.
The allowances included monthly payments of Tk 900 for impoverished persons with disabilities, Tk 650 for the elderly and Tk 650 for widows and deserted women.
Under the Mother and Child Benefit Programme, Nagad also disbursed a significant portion of maternity allowances to more than 3 lakh beneficiaries. They received Tk 850 per month for 36 months.
According to the release, in FY25, the government disbursed over Tk 9,000 crore in social safety net allowances through Nagad.
Commenting on the matter, Nagad administrator Md Motasem Billah said, ‘It is a matter of great pride for us that millions of citizens across all 64 districts have chosen Nagad to receive their government allowances. This trust inspires us to keep improving our digital infrastructure so that every beneficiary, even in the most remote area, can access their rightful entitlements quickly, securely, and without intermediaries.’
