The Anti-Corruption Commission raided the house of Dr. Mansur Rahman, a former Awami League lawmaker for the Rajshahi-5 constituency, on Tuesday, as part of an investigation into alleged illegal wealth accumulation.

An enforcement team led by Main Uddin, assistant director, complaints, of the ACC’s headquarters in Dhaka, conducted the drive at the four-storied house located in the Kazihata area at about 5:00pm and collected various documents.

Faizul Bari, assistant director of ACC Rajshahi integrated office, said that an investigation team from Dhaka had conducted the drive with officials of the public works department following an allegation filed with the commission against the former lawmaker.

Hearing about the ACC team’s presence, several journalists arrived at the house.

Witnesses said that the officials were seen having snacks before hastily leaving the scene without collecting any documents.

When asked, Main Uddin said that the PWD engineers were brought along ‘only to measure the house.’

Shortly after leaving, the ACC officer was also heard instructing Mansur’s son, Dr Ali Mazrui Rahman, over the phone not to allow journalists to enter the premises.

Ali Mazrui Rahman confirmed the ACC visit but declined to comment further on the inquiry.
