Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s detective branch overnight arrested afresh seven leaders and activists of now disbanded Awami League from different parts of the capital.
Raids at different parts of the city yielded their arrests as part of our ongoing campaign. They included leaders of different organisations affiliated to Awami League as well, an official familiar with the process said.
He said the arrested were initially accused of staging frequent ‘flash marches’ in the capital, chanting slogans of the banned party aiming to deteriorate law and order situation.
DB’s deputy commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that subsequent legal procedures including their court production process were underway against those arrested.
DMP, meanwhile, issued a statement naming the seven people saying they were arrested in 24 hours ending Tuesday morning.
The arrested are Barguna district Juba League’s senior vice-president Shahabuddin Sabu, Paltan Thana AL vice-president Yasin Hawlader alias Yasin Company, Ramna Thana Juba League vice-president Md Belal Uddin Rajib, Bangladesh Chhatra League member Faisal Khandaker, AL activist Md Shamim Sheikh, former vice-chairman of Tangail’s Dhanbari upazila AL Md Abu Taleb Mukul and Juba League central executive committee assistant secretary of Tofazzal Hossain Tofail.
