A father has been accused of stabbing his sleeping baby daughter to death in Ghatail upazila in Tangail at night of November 2.
The police arrested the father, Muktar Ali, on Monday afternoon from Kaitkai village where he allegedly killed his three-year-old daughter Toha.
Local people said that Muktar Ali was suffering from mental instability for about a year and was taken to different places by his family for treatment.
On Sunday night, while at home, he suddenly blew in a fit of rage and jumped onto his sleeping daughter and stabbed her with a knife in the chest and stomach.
Alerted by the screams of Toha鈥檚 mother, neighbours rushed to their house and took the child to Ghatail Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared her dead.
Ghatail police inspector (investigation) Sajal Khan said, 鈥楿pon receiving the information, we recovered the body of the deceased at night and brought to the police station.鈥�
The victim鈥檚 mother filed a case with the Ghatail police on Monday morning and later on the accused was arrested.
The body of the deceased was sent to Tangail General Hospital for autopsy, the inspected said.
