A seven-day annual art exhibition showcasing experimental artworks by sculpture students from Dhaka University is underway at the university’s Zainul Gallery. The event began on Sunday.

The ‘Annual Art Exhibition 2024’ is currently showcasing 71 artworks, primarily sculptures, created by 43 students during the 2023-24 academic year. The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of the late eminent sculptor Hamiduzzaman Khan.


The exhibition also displayed drawings, designs, animation, photographs and digital prints.

The exhibition opened with an award ceremony where six talented artists were honored for their exceptional artworks. The exhibition was inaugurated by the chief guest, Dhaka University Treasurer Professor M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, who also presented the awards to the artists.

The event was chaired by department chairman Nasimul Khabir and featured speeches from several distinguished guests: FFA dean Azharul Islam Sheikh Chanchal, Zainul Abedin’s son Mainul Abedin, sculptor Lala Rukh Selim, and the exhibition’s convener, Nasima Haque Mitu.

Pratyay Saha was honored with the Artist Anwar Jahan Memorial Award, Chinmoy Ghosh was presented the Professor Abdur Razzaq Memorial Award, and Oli Mia was the recipient of the Sculptor Novera Ahmed Memorial Award at the event.

Mridha Md. Raiyan Azim was honored with the Prof. Hamiduzzaman Khan Memorial Award. Concurrently, Sumit Roy received the Best Medium Award, while Supriyo Kumar Ghosh was presented with the Best Experimental Award by the guests.

The exhibition will conclude on November 8.
