Bangladesh’s two international masters’ Manon Reja Neer and Mohammad Fahad Rahman made early exit from the first round of the FIDE World Cup 2025 after losing to their respective rivals in the matches in Goa, India, on Sunday.

Manon conceded defeat to Norwegian grandmaster Tari Aryan 0.5-1.5 points after losing the second game 0-1 on Sunday.


Earlier, Manon played a 0.5-05 draw against Tari in the first game on Saturday.

Fahad also conceded 0.5-1.5 defeat to Ukrainian grandmaster Ivanchuk Vasyl in the first round game. He played 0.5-0.5 draw against Ivanchuk in the second game on Sunday after suffering 1-0 defeat to the same counterpart in the first game.

This was the maiden appearance for Manon in the world event while Fahad could not win any games in his previous two appearances in 2019 and 2023.   

Enamul Hossain, who achieved grandmaster title in 2008, was the only Bangladeshi player could advance the second round of the Chess World Cup when he defeated Ukrainian grandmaster Pavel Eljanov in a two-game match in 2007.
