A Border Guard Bangladesh member died on Friday, 23 days after he was injured in a landmine explosion while on duty along the border with Myanmar in Bandarban.
Lance Naik Md Akter Hossain of the BGB passed away on Friday afternoon while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka, said a press release from the border force issued on Saturday.
A BGB helicopter flew his body to his village home in Syedpur of Doulatkhan upazila in Bhola.
After funeral prayers, he was buried with the highest state and military honours.
According to the BGB, Akter Hossain was critically injured in a landmine explosion on October 12 while on patrol in Tumbru area of Naikhongchhari upazila in Bandarban, near the Myanmar border, which has been ravaged by armed conflict.
Akter Hossain was first admitted to Ramu Combined Military Hospital later to be shifted to Dhaka CMH for better treatment.
Naik Akter Hossain set a shining example by sacrificing his life for the sovereignty of the nation, the BGB release said.聽
The BGB family deeply mourns the loss of a brave and patriotic member, the release also said.
Landmine explosions have become increasingly frequent along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, as displaced Rohingya refugees continue to flee Myanmar鈥檚 Rakhine state to Bangladesh since 2017, amid ongoing conflict.
