A three-day art festival featured film screenings, exhibitions, workshops and a musical event titled Rit ended at Nook Dhaka at Banani on Saturday.

The festival also unveiled a poetry book of poet Mahbub Shahriar and premiered a film directed by Nabil Rahman titled Rit.


The film ‘Rit’ is a collective work of Nabil Rahman, Mahbub Shahriar, Akram Hossain and Rafi Nur while the film is based on the poem of Mahbub Shahriar which portrays the six seasons of Bangla calendar.

The film Rit, captured the six seasons and depicted six different stories with the poem and narration of Mahbub Shahriar.

Nabil Rahman said that the film was a group work while the cinematographers and poet worked for the film simultaneously.

‘As a director we worked as a team and improvised the total work which is based on the idea of six seasons of the Bengali calendar,’ Nabil Rahman said, adding that the film was created for celebrating the poetry.

The book launch event and premiere of the film was held on October 30.

The festival also featured a performance titled Silent Traces by artist Farah Naz Moon on Friday and a discussion by visual artist Tapash Paul on Saturday. A Dotara Lab conducted by instrumental artiste Syed Isratul Masfic Soad was held on Friday. Besides, a workshop on storytelling conducted by Nisha Alam Rahman and A pottery workshop by Mazharul Haque Tonmoy were held as a part of the festival.

The festival ended with a special screening of the film titled ‘Dear Mother,’ directed By Sk Shuvo Shadique.  

‘Dear Mother,’ is set against the backdrop of post-colonialism which highlights the struggle of national minority people and the erasure of their stories by a nationalistic state. The film portrays the emotional bond between a mother and her daughter and a wife’s silent influence on her husband’s quest for freedom.

The book Rit and the film were produced by Nabil Rahman and Ayesha Sultana and the festival was jointly organised by Nook Dhaka and Nabil Rahman.
