Bangladesh Water and Power Engineers’ Association held a seminar titled Sustainable Infrastructure and Strategic Planning in the Water and Power Sector: The Role of Engineers in Future Leadership was held at the Pani Bhaban in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Power, energy and mineral resources adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan and environment, forest and climate change adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan were present as guests of honour at the event, said a press release.
Fouzul Kabir Khan said, ‘The water and power sectors are the two main pillars of the country’s development. To build sustainable infrastructure, the innovative thinking, sincerity and strategic vision of engineers are very important.’
He also said that their active participation in future leadership would make this sector more dynamic.
Rizwana Hasan said that development should be in harmony with the environment. ‘This is the main goal of sustainable development.’
The keynote was presented by the organisation’s secretary general Engineer Md Shahedul Azim Sajal and publicity secretary Engineer Md Saif Uddin.
Shahedul Azim Sajal said that sustainable progress in the water and power sectors was essential for the sustainable development of Bangladesh. ‘And the main driving force of this development is the engineers, who are working tirelessly at the field level, in projects and in the office, keeping the country’s development cycle running.’
The seminar was presided over by Md Shahjahan Siraj, president of Bangladesh Water and Power Engineers’ Association and chief engineer of Bangladesh Water Development Board.
