Leaders of different political parties on Friday said that a democratic transition for the country was essential through the next general election in February, in a free, fair and credible manner to resolve the ongoing political crisis.

They made the remarks in the opening session of a national conference of the Ganosamhati Andolan in Dhaka.


The Ganosamhati initiated its three-day 5th national conference at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, where chief coordinator Zonayed Saki chaired, with the vow for a democratic transition in the country.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who was also present, called on all the political parties to continue national unity for democratic transition of the country.

Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna said that the country was facing serious political crisis and there was no alternative to democratic transition through holding next general election in February 2026.

Revolutionary Workers聽 Party of Bangladesh general secretary Saiful Huq said that some political parties were trying to delay the next general election in February but they would not be successful.

Ganosamhati chief coordinator Zonayed Saki called on the party leaders and activists to continue their efforts to hold the next general election. He also called on the interim government to continue their preparations to hold the election properly.

Executive coordinator of Ganosamhati Abul Hassan Rubel said that they must implement the spirit of July uprising at any coast for the formation of a democratic country.聽

Bhashani Janashakti Party chairman Shekh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, Gono Odhikar Parishad president Nurul Haque Nur, AB Party chairman Mojibur Rahman Monju, Bangladesh Rashtra Sanskar Andolan general secretary Syed Hasibuddin Ahmed, 12-Party leader Ehsanul Huda, Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist) coordinator Masud Rana, Ganosamhati central leaders Firoz Ahmed, Taslima Akhter, Julhasnayeen Babu,聽 Monir Uddin Pappu and others spoke at the discussion meeting.

Relatives of martyred of July uprising Maria Sultana and Farzana Akter inaugurated the national conference in IEB premises聽 and party chief coordinator Zonayed Saki and executive coordinator Abul Hassan Rubel hoisted national and party flags respectively.

The two day council sessions will be held on Saturday and Sunday in Gonoshysthya Kendra auditorium in Savar and several hundred party delegates from across the country will attend the council session.

A new central committee of the party would be formed on Sunday, the party sources said.
