A three-day intensive workshop organised for 20 young aspirant women journalists concluded in Gazipur on Tuesday.

Fojo Media Institute jointly with the Communication and Journalism Educators Network organised the workshop aimed at empowering the next generation of women newsroom leaders, said a press release.


The workshop titled ‘Women Media Leaders of Tomorrow’ was co-funded by the European Union and held in October 26–28 in Gazipur.

Workshop participants were from Chittagong University and Daffodil International University, who took part in interactive sessions on newsroom leadership, confidence building, mentorship and ethical journalism.

The sessions were conducted by leading media professionals, including Kersti Forsberg, veteran Swedish journalist and former executive director of Fojo Media Institute; Sheikh Sabihah Alam, Dhaka bureau chief of AFP; Fahim Ahmed, chief executive officer of Jamuna Television; SK Tanvir Mahmud, editor of GIJN Bangla; Jesmin Papri, fellow of Rest of World; and Mariem Aziz Mourin, staff reporter, News24.

Discussions focused on key challenges women faced in practising journalism, including newsroom safety, workplace harassment, emotional resilience and professional networking.

Speakers emphasised the importance of creating supportive environment and building solidarity among women journalists.

The workshop also highlighted the crucial role of mentorship and training in inspiring and shaping women’s participation and leadership in journalism.
