A London-bound flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines was delayed for over five hours and a half after a boarding bridge struck the aircraft’s engine at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place at around 10:30am when the boarding bridge scraped against the aircraft of the flight No BG-202 which was about to take off and fly to Heathrow airport of the United Kingdom with 262 passengers on board.

Osmani International Airport director Hafiz Ahmed confirmed the incident to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.  ‘The flight was suspended immediately after the incident for safety reasons and it was decided to send the passengers to London through an alternative arrangement,’ he said.

Another aircraft was later brought to Sylhet from Dhaka and it left for London at around 4:00pm carrying the waiting passengers, he said.

Responding to a query, the airport director said that departmental steps would be taken against the employees responsible for the incident.

The extent of damage could not be ascertained immediately, as the authorities were still calculating it.
