A man was killed when a goods-laden train hit a truck at the Sagorika level crossing in Chattogram port city on early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Md Samsuddin, 38, the assistant of the truck driver.
Quoting witnesses, Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Chattogram Railway Police, said that the accident took place on early Tuesday when a Dhaka-bound goods-laden train from Chattogram port hit the rice-laden truck, killing one person on the spot.
He said the locomotive of the train overturned, while the truck was badly damaged in the collision.
Officials from Eastern Railway said train operations would resume once the rescue work was completed.
They primarily suspect that the accident occurred due to the truck driver鈥檚 negligence.
The line is used exclusively for freight and container trains, they said.
